It's a huge competition day for several teams at Speedway today. Three prestigious Marion County tournaments begin today. In boys and girls soccer, the Sparkplugs host Warren Central. The Class 2A #12 ranked boys (6-3-2, 3-0-1 HLC) will be slight favorites against the 3A Warriors (2-10, 0-5 MIC) and with a win, would advance to play the winner of the Class 3A #19 North Central/Lawrence North matchup. The girls (0-11-1, 0-7 HLC) are in rebuild mode this year but started the year scrimmaging against the Lady Warriors (2-9, 0-4 MIC). Tonight's matchup provides a great opportunity to gauge progress and to scratch out the team's first win of a frustrating season. In boys tennis, after winning their opening match of the season against Beech Grove, a youth-filled Sparkplug squad (1-12, 1-3 HLC) hosts Warren Central (weather permitting) and looks to be a spoiler in today's match. GIRLS GOLF SECTIONAL The girls will be competing today in the Brebeuf Sectional which takes place at Pebble Brook Golf Club. The tournament field of nine schools includes two teams ranked in the top five. The girls enjoyed one of their best matches of the season last week, defeating Monrovia and Lebanon last Monday at the Brickyard.
