SPEEDWAY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

The IHSAA State tournament for both boys and girls soccer opens tonight. The #13 ranked Speedway boys (9-5-2, 5-0-1 HLC champs) will host Class 2A Sectional 25, The boys kick off the tournament opener at 5 p.m. tonight when we host Purdue Poly Englewood (6-7, 2-2 Capital City). In the second game, #10 ranked Cardinal Ritter (9-5, 3-2 ICC) plays Beech Grove 2-12-1, 1-3 HLC). If the Sparkplugs and Raiders both win, it will set up a rematch of last year's Sectional match where the Raiders took a 4-0 win. That rematch would take place on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. #11 Bishop Chatard (6-7-2, 0-3 Circle City) and George Washington (2-6, 0-4 Capital City) both drew byes and will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the right to advance to the championship game. The Sectional 25 championship game will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday. All Sectional 25 matches take place at Ralph Johnson Field. The girls (1-13-1, 0-5 HLC) have had a tough season and the sectional draw was not kind. Class 2A Sectional 28 is at Roncalli this year and the Speedway girls face the #10 ranked tournament hosts (7-6-2, 2-1 Circle City) on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
